Co: Spinel(Co2+:MgAl2O4) is a recently developed material, which has been proven to be a very effective passive Q-switch in lasers emitting in the range of 1,2 µm - 1,6 µm, especially suitable for the 1.54μm eye-safe Er glass laser. Passive Q-switching or saturable absorber can generate high-power laser pulses without using electro-optic Q switching, which can effectively reduce the size of the device and avoid the use of high-voltage power.
Spinel is a hard, stable crystal that can be polished to the desired index. Cobalt particles replace magnesium ions without additional charge compensation. In the 1.3μm attachment, it has a particularly high excited-state absorption cross-section (3.5×10-19cm2).
