Introduction :

Terbium Gallium Garnet (TGG) is a kind of synthetic garnet, a magneto-optical crystal with a high level of thermal conductivity for Faraday rotators and isolators. It can be used in optical isolators for laser systems, in optical circulators for fiber optic systems, in optical modulators, and in current and magnetic field sensors.

The Faraday rotator is composed of a TGG crystal rod and a specially designed magnet. The polarization direction of the beam passing through the magneto-optical material will be deflected under the action of a magnetic field, and its deflection direction is only related to the direction of the magnetic field and has nothing to do with the direction of beam propagation. The optical isolator consists of a 45-deflection optical rotator and a pair of appropriately placed polarizers. It allows the light beam to pass in only one direction and blocks the light beam from propagating in the opposite direction.
